New Deck Built for Disabled Senior

Updated: Mar 19, 2023

The frame of this worn out deck was completely rotted. The home owner could no longer safely use it. She really enjoys sitting on her deck to get fresh air and sunshine but could no longer roll her wheel chair on to the deck boards for fear of falling through the rotten frame. The rotten deck railing was also in dire need of repair.

We found out the home owner had very limited financial means and her quality of life was greatly affected by not being able to use her deck. Next Door Helpers found a way to tear down and install a brand new deck for the cost of material only. We donated the labor at no cost to the home owner.

We were not sure how much of the framing needed to be replaced until we removed all deck boards. As more and more boards were removed we realized the entire deck needed to be removed except for one post. We then rebuilt the deck with the same dimensions using the same type of lumber. The railing was rebuilt and reinforced. The new deck now can be used without fear of falling through.
